Description

This is Shinfuzen, one of my Zoids OCs. As you may notice, he's a customized version of the supposed "Prototype CAS" developed for the Konig Wolf. I also just realized that this is my 100th deviation. Whoo!

About the CAS:

I'd like to point out that while the overall design is the same, Shinfuzen here is a customized version of this CAS. This CAS was a prototype. I could be wrong, but as far as I'm aware, this was a prototype version of the wolf determined to use CAS, rather than a full blown CAS itself. This same CAS was later seen at a convention, but I'm unsure of rather or not this CAS was really a 'prototype' in model terms, or if it was simply a member custom. It was cool nonetheless, though. You can see the original in these two images: [link] [link]

Shinfuzen was adapted from this design, with a series of ventilation and armor adjustments made to break up the use of colors.

Story Verse:

Developed from the Wild Zoids of Delpoi, the Konig Wolf was originally speculated to be on the same platform as Liger Zero and Berserk Furher, two Zoids that had been established with the same kind of system. These Zoids were frequently known as the "Ultimate X", a name which would later be misinterpreted and distorted. However, scientists spear heading the attempt to bring the Wolf to CAS status failed to take into account the normal difference in strength between these species. While the Wolf was more than strong enough on its own, it was a self sufficient core base prone to over heating in its basic form.

Wolves were more feral, less inclined to accept the man-made systems bestowed by their masters. This lead to immeasurable complications with the CAS project, resulting in the loss of many test subjects when the core simply could not stand the extra energy drain of carrying a new armor system. In these moments of failing, wolves were also inclined by their natural instincts to cause considerable damage to their surroundings in a self defense mechanism. After years of dealing with the violent prone and irritable creatures, attempts were made to hybridize the core to preserve the CAS armor.

Shinfuzen, and many others were a part of this project, which involved splicing core fragments and data from saber-toothed Lion and Tiger Cores. The end result was a notably stronger core, capable of supporting far more energy than the previous state. The down fall was the instability of this core. Rather than running out of energy and shut down, the hybridized cores were at a constant risk of being destroyed completely. Should the energy spill out of control, the highs of that energy could result in an unpredictable detonation of the entire unit, or at its lows, send the Zoid spiraling into a core failure that it would be unable to pull out of, even with human assistance. This instability cost the company countless valuable cores.

In the progressing arms race, CAS were the "new thing". They allowed individual units to be adapted to different combat situations, and were cheaper to produce (under normal circumstances) than an entire Zoid intended for specialized combat. The waning finances made these units valuable to both the Helic Republic and the Guylos Empire, but finding the Wild Zoids to support them was becoming more difficult, as more Zoids were harvested for this task. The Saber-toothed lions used to support the Liger Zero platform and the Rex Zoids used for the Furhers were both scarce, but wolves were plentiful on the Republican continent, and hope was held out that they could have been used to advance the Republic ahead of the Empire's progress.

Even so, the project was constantly taking turns for the worse. In spite of their progress, the scientists running the project were having difficulty finding more gaps to fill that could possibly stabilize the core above what it had been. Their minimal success had already called on every resource the could draw from the core, and to force the Zoids to carry any more than their basic armor, which was virtually weaponless, would send the Zoid into the category of a mass destructive weapon. Natural cores were nothing to laugh at, and the detonation of a Zoid Core could wipe out any small military unit. The matter became a moral dilemma of the Republic on rather or not to issue these Zoids weaponless, which would defeat their original purpose and also introduce the possibility of suicide piloting; something the Helic Republic had never publically supported in their past. For the safety of civilians in both the Helic Republic and the Empire, the project was decommissioned.

Even so, there was no denying that the wolves were a substantial and plentiful power. Should the Republic need to call on their service in the future they attempted to confiscate all wolves, but many scientists were bitter for being cut off from something they'd spent several years on, or from being dismissed due to their immoral attempts to progress the project. Many felt that there was still hope for advancing the progress, and felt that it was worth the risk to those that would be put in danger. These individuals departed from the Helic Republic on smuggling ships and continued their work in the Empire, with their unregistered Zoids. Their work carried on under the Republic's radar, in remote areas of little interest to the Imperialist nation.

Shinfuzen is one of those projects, carried on by his master Dr. Biogami. His name was affectionately given to him due to his ongoing core instability, thus suited to the name "heart failure".

His progress allowed him to carry a dramatically weakened frame-tight E-Shield and rail gun, which saw extremely limited use due to their inability to seek frequent repairs (at risk of being detected by the Empire). As the rail gun was a rapidly degrading weapon with every use, it was used for testing purposes only to ensure its functionality, and preserved from then on for defensive use only.

Shinfuzen was found to be capable of standard battle, but only at a reserved level. His feral attacks would allow him to remain in combat against multiple opponents for up to thirty minutes, assuming he avoided any electrical fang or claw attacks. The Electro-magnetic Accelerated Rail gun cut a minute of time with every use. After this time limit was up, the Zoid's temperature would rise, risking damage to internal wiring and tubing, and to the pilot. His Core chamber was found to be at highest risk, and to overheat well beyond the time his frame would see the damages. Multiple cooling systems, including the additional ventilation shafts and cooling fan were put into place to give the Zoid extra time in battle, or for escape, if the situation called for it. The unusual spinal column along his back also acted as a heat sink to disperse the heat throughout the body, giving the Core Chamber additional air to breath.

After all of this time, Shinfuzen was deemed unacceptable for war-oriented combat, but the progress was promising. Biogami had managed to keep the wolf in what he deemed a stable state for a limited amount of time. A cautious pilot such as himself would be able to determine their Zoid's stability based on their natural body language and changes in personality/agility, just as a pet owner may recognize something wrong with their pet. These forewarnings were enough to convince him that Shinfuzen was not a threat to his life, or to anyone else's, so long as he was piloted by someone that was very familiar with the Zoid. Determined, Biogami continued is work in hopes of eventually bringing the Zoid to a war-weapon level.
